Please join Slow Food CNY this Thursday at Marcellus Free Library to learn more about Canning, Pickling and Preserves. Jessica Maxwell, who has been canning for over 10 years, will help you learn how to get started, what equipment you need and cover the basics.

Where: Marcellus Free Library, 32 Maple Street, Marcellus, NY

July Meeting and Potluck

We’re very excited to announce that our next potluck will be held at Grindstone Farm in Pulaski on Saturday, July 17th starting at 2pm. There is a lake to swim in, so bring your swimsuits and towels, plus a dish to pass, a plate and utensils and a picnic blanket or lawn chair to sit on.

Garden Tour This Sunday

Women Transcending Boundaries invites you to experience the beauty of this season at Sycamore Hill Gardens, Sunday, June 6, 2010 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

This magnificent private garden is located at 2130 Old Seneca Turnpike, Marcellus, New York 13108.

Enjoy breathtaking views, a myriad of blossoms, sculptures and plants from all areas of the world. Children will love the challenge of a 2200 tree evergreen maze!

Meander to the sounds of acoustic guitar performances by Loren Barrigar, James Horan & Dick Ward. Accommodations are available for those who have difficulty walking.

Tickets are $10 at the door/$8 in advance
Seniors & Students $8 at the door/$6 in advance
Children 12 and under are free!
The tour will be held rain or shine.

Empire Brewing Company Hosts First Slow Food CNY Fundraiser Dinner

One month from tonight! Experience Slow Food, Slow Brew on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at 6pm at Empire Brewing Company, 120 Walton Street, Armory Square, downtown Syracuse (315-475-2337). Enjoy local food, beer, and wine, support local business, and fund the Slow Food CNY chapter – all at the same time!

Showing of the movie “Fresh” in Cato

What: The Cato Rotary and Lang Memorial Library are having a showing the movie Fresh.
Where: St. Patrick’s Church in Cato, 2476 W. Mechanic Street
When: Saturday, April 24th, 1:00pm
Who: Everyone is welcome, free and open to the public!

Considered by many as the “must-see” documentary of the year, Fresh, will be held at St. Patrick’s Church in Cato on April 24th at 1:00pm. This important program about sustainable farming is presented by the Lang Memorial Library. The event will include a discussion of the film with Jamie Edelstein of Wyllie Fox CSA Farm. Samples of products locally grown or produced, as well as recipes for healthy eating, will also be presented.

Produced by Ana Sofia Joanes, the movie Fresh examines our current food system and presents not only facts and figures, but also real personal stories of change. Fresh makes us believe that our individual actions in fact do matter. Throughout the film we encounter the most inspiring people, ideas, and initiatives around the US. What: Slow Food CNY Community Meeting and Potluck

When: Sunday, April 18th, 4pm-7pm. Food will be served at 4:30pm.

Where: Grace Episcopal Church, 819 Madison Street, Syracuse, NY

Who: Anyone who wants to come! Bring a dish to pass. Any food that you love to make will be welcome. SFCNY will provide cards so every dish can be identified. Please bring your own utensils and plates!

Benefit Concert For the Isabella Street Tapestry Garden

Syracuse Grows and Women Transcending Boundaries is hosting a benefit concert. Loren Barrigar will be performing a solo benefit concert April 10th at 7pm in Hendricks Chapel on the SU campus. Admission is only $8 or $5 for students and seniors. All proceeds will benefit the Isabella Street Tapestry Garden located on the Northside.

This is a wonderful opportunity to support one of our local gardens and Loren is sure to put on a great show. We encourage you to come out and see one of CNY’s local musical talents and show your support for the Tapestry Garden.
